1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 10-inch round cake pan. Prepare cake following package directions for basic recipe. Bake at 350°F for 45 to 55 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
2. For decorator frosting, combine confectioners' sugar, shortening, water, non-dairy powdered creamer, vanilla extract and salt in small bowl. Beat at medium speed with electric mixer 2 minutes. Add more confectioners' sugar to thicken or water to thin frosting as needed.
3. Cut 2-inch wide piece from center of cake; remove. Place cake halves together to make football shape as shown. Spread chocolate frosting on sides and top of cake. Place basketweave tip in pastry bag. Fill with decorator frosting. Make white frosting laces on football.
If a 10-inch round pan is not available, make 2 football cakes by following package directions for baking with two 9-inch round cake pans.
