Beefy Bread
Makes 6 to 8 servings

pounds ground beef
|

cup finely chopped onion

ounces rotini pasta
|

tablespoons butter or margarine

|

cup flour
|

teaspoon pepper

teaspoon salt

|

cups milk
|

1/3

pound pasteurized process cheese spread, cut into cubes
|

can (4 ounces) carrots, drained
|
|
1
|
can (4 ounces) peas, drained
|
|
1

loaf Italian bread
|
|
|
Butter or margarine, softened
|
|
|
Garlic powder to taste
|
|

cup chopped green onions
|
|
|
|

|
|
|
|
|
In skillet, brown ground beef with onion. Drain. Meanwhile, cook rotini according to package directions; drain. In large saucepan, melt 6 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Stir in flour, pepper and salt. Remove from heat and gradually add milk, stirring constantly. Return to heat and add process cheese spread, stirring constantly until process cheese spread melts and sauce thickens. Add rotini, ground beef, carrots and peas to cheese sauce and keep hot.

Hollow out inside of bread loaf. Butter inside of loaf and sprinkle with garlic powder. Fill loaf with rotini mixture, wrap in foil and bake at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove foil, cut into slices and garnish with green onions.
