Ice Ring

For an extra-special occasion, freeze edible flowers in a small ice ring and float it in a bowl of punch.

Ingredients
  Water
Fresh edible flowers (such as dianthus, geraniums, pansies, calendulas or roses), fresh herbs or fresh fruits and nontoxic leaves (such as citrus slices, lemon leaves, halved strawberries and leaves, raspberries or nectarine slices)
Supplies
  Ring mold
  Container bigger than ring mold*
Flat plate at least 1 inch larger than diameter of ring mold
*Or, use kitchen sink.

1. Add enough cold water to ring mold to just cover bottom of mold. Place mold in freezer. Freeze until surface of water is frozen. Remove from freezer.
2. Arrange half of desired amount of flowers, herbs or fruits and leaves on ice layer in mold. Carefully add enough cold water to mold to make about one-half full. Return mold to freezer. Freeze until surface of water is frozen. Remove from freezer.
3. Top with remaining flowers, herbs or fruits and leaves. Add enough cold water to fill mold to desired height. Freeze until water is completely frozen, several hours or overnight. Remove from freezer.
4. To unmold ice ring, set mold in larger container. Add enough hot water to container to almost reach top of mold. Let stand for few seconds to loosen icy edges. Remove mold from container.
5. Center plate upside-down over mold. Holding mold and plate together, invert to unmold ice ring. Return to freezer until ready to use.
