Grand Old Flag Cookie
Yield: Makes 10 to 12 servings
This break-apart cookie will make a dramatic statement at any patriotic celebration. Once the cookie is baked, be sure to let the kids help out with the decorating fun!
Ingredients:
1
package (18 ounces) refrigerated sugar cookie dough
1
container (16 ounces) vanilla frosting
Blue food coloring
50
white chocolate chips
3
cherry- or strawberry-flavored chewy fruit snack rolls, divided
2
pretzel rods
1
(15X10-inch) cake board, covered, or large platter
Preparation:
1.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease 13X9-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place dough in prepared pan; press evenly onto bottom of pan. Bake 15 to 18 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool in pan on wire rack 15 minutes. Remove cookie from pan to rack; cool completely.
2.
Place cookie on prepared cake board. Tint 1/2 cup frosting blue. Spread blue frosting in 4-inch square in top left corner of cookie as background for stars. Frost remaining cookie with remaining white frosting. Arrange chips for stars, alternating 5 rows of 6 stars each with 4 rows of 5 stars each.
3.
Cut fruit snack rolls into 3 (9-inch) strips and 3 (13-inch) strips; place on cookie as stripes. Wrap pretzel rods with remaining fruit roll lengths; place next to cookie for flag pole.
