These tangy turnovers are great as a dessert or with your morning coffee.
Ingredients
3
cups water
1
teaspoon lemon juice
1
medium apple, peeled and cored
4-1/2
teaspoons granulated sugar, divided
1/2
teaspoon ground cinnamon
10
sheets frozen phyllo dough, thawed
3/4
cup (1-1/2 sticks) butter, melted
1/4
cup sweetened dried cranberries
3/4
cup "M&M's"® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Baking Bits
White Glaze (recipe follows)
In medium bowl combine water and lemon juice. Cut apple into 1-inch chunks; place in lemon water. In small bowl combine 2 teaspoons sugar and cinnamon. Place 1 sheet phyllo dough at a time on flat surface and brush immediately with melted butter.* Fold sheet in half lengthwise. Brush with butter again; fold in half lengthwise again. Place 3 to 4 apple pieces, 1 teaspoon cranberries and 1 tablespoon "M&M's"® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Baking Bits on 1 end of phyllo strip; sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon-sugar. Fold over 1 corner to make triangle. Continue folding end to end, as if folding a flag, keeping edges straight. Brush top with butter; sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon sugar. Repeat process with all remaining ingredients. Place triangles in single layer, seam-side down, on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on pan 1 minute. Remove to wire racks; cool completely. Prepare White Glaze. Drizzle glaze over turnovers; sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons "M&M's"® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Baking Bits. Store in tightly covered container.
*Keep remaining phyllo sheets covered with large sheet of plastic wrap and damp, clean kitchen towel to keep from drying out.
