Chocolate Cherry-Nut Drops
Makes about 3-1/2 dozen cookies
Ingredients
3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup HERSHEY'®S Cocoa
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup water
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup finely chopped maraschino cherries, well drained
  Vanilla Frosting (recipe follows)
  Candied cherries, quartered or multi-colored sprinkles (optional)
   
1. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl until fluffy. Add egg, vanilla and almond extracts; beat until well blended. Stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; add alternately with water to butter mixture. Stir in nuts and maraschino cherries. Cover; refrigerate dough 2 to 3 hours.
2. Heat oven to 350°F.
3. Lightly grease cookie sheet. Drop dough by slightly heaping teaspoons onto prepared cookie sheet.
4. Bake 9 to 10 minutes or until set. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. Spread with Vanilla Frosting. Garnish with candied cherries, if desired.
Vanilla Frosting
Makes about 3/4 cup
 
Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 to 2 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
   
Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar alternately with milk, beating to spreading consistency. Beat in vanilla and almond extracts.
