Tartar sauce is a mayonnaise-based condiment that is traditionally flavored with finely chopped capers, dill pickles, onions and lemon juice. Although it is typically served with fried fish and shellfish, tartar sauce can also be served with broiled or grilled fish. Tartar sauce may be purchased or made at home from purchased mayonnaise.
