A quiche is a savory tart or pie
with an egg custard filling flavored with cheese and sometimes meat, seafood
or vegetables. It is generally baked in a pie plate or quiche dish. Quiches
originated in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France. Quiche Lorraine, which
is flavored with bacon, is a well-known quiche. It contains no cheese. Other
popular versions include Cheddar cheese and ham, Cheddar cheese and broccoli,
and Swiss cheese and onion. Quiches are served as an appetizer or entrée.
