Pita, also known as pocket bread, is a round, flat Middle Eastern bread made from white or whole wheat flour. It is usually about six to seven inches in diameter. The bread splits horizontally to form a pocket, which can be filled with a variety of ingredients to make a sandwich. Pita bread may also be cut into wedges, toasted and used as dippers for Middle Eastern dishes like hummus.
