Jam is a sweet, thick spread made from crushed fruit cooked with sugar. It is similar to fruit preserves in how it is made, but unlike preserves, it seldom contains identifiable fruit pieces. Jam is used as a spread for toast and bread, a filling for cookies, tortes and pastries or as an ingredient in both sweet and savory recipes.
