Hummus is a Middle Eastern dish prepared with mashed chick-peas combined with lemon juice, garlic and oil. When tahini, a paste made from sesame seeds, is added, the mixture is known technically as hummus bi tahini. Hummus is most often served as a dip with wedges of pita bread. It can be purchased canned or fresh in Middle Eastern markets and many large supermarkets. Hummus can also easily be made at home.
