Empanadas are Mexican or Spanish filled pastries similar to turnovers. Usually in the shape of a half circle or triangle, they may be deep-fried or baked. Fillings may be savory or sweet. Empanadas range in size from those that serve several people to small, bite-size versions called empanaditas.
