Dusting is a technique used to lightly coat a food, before or after cooking, with a powdery ingredient, such as flour or powdered sugar. The ingredient may be sprinkled on using your fingers or shaken from a small sieve or a container with holes on the top. A greased baking pan can be dusted with flour before it is filled, a technique also known as flouring.
